PORTSMOUTH—Christopher Douglas Wood, 52, of Portsmouth, VA passed away in his beloved home on December 28, 2023.

Chris was born on April 17, 1971.  After graduating from Churchland High School, he received a bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University.  He then attended Widener University Delaware Law School, where he received his Juris Doctorate.  During his professional career he also worked in the IT and computer programming industry.

From an early age, Chris had an affinity for anything with wheels.  He enjoyed being outside riding his bike or tinkering with his vehicles.  Later in life this passion developed into a cherished hobby of building BMX bikes for personal use, and as gifts for his four nephews.  He also loved to rebuild and work on the numerous Volkswagens he owned throughout his life.  Chris was a lover of dogs, staying loyal to the Rottweiler breed.  His "girls" included Cheyenne, Leah, Zelda, Raina, and Kady.

Chris was predeceased by his grandparents, Richard F. Wood, Sr. and Dona E. Wood of Portsmouth, and his uncle Donn H. Wood of New York City.  He is survived by his father, Thomas E. Wood (Jennifer Van Deusen); mother Sandra Wood; stepmother Corinne L. Wood; brother Michael E. Wood and his son Tyler M. Wood; sister Jennifer (Nick) W. Jacovides and their sons Luke, Dean, and Alexander Jacovides; uncle Richard (Sandy) F. Wood, Jr.; cousin Richard "Ritchie" F. Wood III.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth. If desired, friends may make memorial donations to the Portsmouth Humane Society, 4022 Seaboard Ct, Portsmouth, VA 23701.
