Obituary

Carolyn Jean "Gommie" Davis, 74, passed away on May 18th, 2014 at her home in Suffolk, Virginia after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years, Neal; her four children, Michelle Eichelberger and her husband Scott, Kendra Reisch and her husband Tim, Michael Davis and his wife Debbie, Kara Wood; her 11 grandchildren, Grant, Emily, Shelton, Curtis, Peyton, Morgan, Kimberly, Neal, Kempton, Walker, John Wallace "Wally"; and her faithful border collie, Casey. She is also survived by her sister Kay and her three children Kim, Deon and Bryce.

Jean lived her life enjoying her deep love for nature at the beaches of Southern Shores, North Carolina and the mountains of Wintergreen, Virginia. She and Neal looked forward to spending winters with close friends and family in Fort Myers, Florida.

Among the many things Jean held close to her heart, family was of highest priority, demonstrated through the creation of memories, stories, and laughter among her children, in-laws and grandchildren in the most imaginative of ways. Jean led her life with a quiet generosity and a warm, friendly nature. Her genuine concern for the poor resulted in her devoting her time and resources to many in need.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21st, at 4:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, VA. After the Mass, the family welcomes guests to celebrate at a reception in St. Therese's Bishop Sullivan Hall.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Jean's behalf to Oasis Social Ministries (800-A Williamsburg Ave. Portsmouth, VA 23704) or the Portsmouth Humane Society (4022 Seaboard Ct. Portsmouth, VA 23701). Condolences may be registered at bwfosterfuneralhome.com.
