Obituary

Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Lawrence H. Taylor, Jr., 83, passed away May 6, 2015 at his home in Chesapeake with his beloved wife of 55 years, Ann, by his side.
Larry grew up in Akron, Ohio, the son of Violet and Lawrence Taylor. A scholar-athlete, he attended Kenyon College and graduated from the University of Akron with an electrical engineering degree. He and Ann began their adventure when they met in Sasebo, Japan. Among his many shipboard, staff and shipyard duty stations over 29 years were Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA for an M.S. in mechanical engineering, Engineering Officer on the USS Oriskany (CVA-34) and Production Officer at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. After a distinguished naval career, he moved to the private sector at Moon Engineering.
Always the engineer, he tried unsuccessfully to maintain order amidst the happy chaos that ensues with three children; Mark (Leah), Laura T Nanartowich (Ed) and Maggie T Perry (Kevin); 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Instead, he cherished his role as beloved Dad, Papa and Uncle Larry, with a dash of Grammar Police thrown in.
The family will receive friends at B.W. Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth, VA on Friday evening, May 8 from 6-7:30. A funeral service will be held at B.W. Foster Funeral Home, Chapel Saturday, May 9 at 3:00 pm. Interment at Arlington will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Portsmouth Salvation Army, 2306 Airline Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23701.
