SUFFOLK—Burleigh Edward "Eddie" Tapman III, 81, passed away peacefully at his home October 8, 2025. He was born in Portsmouth, VA to the late Burleigh E. Tapman, Jr., and Juanita Shaw Seagroves.

The love for his family was the most important part of his life, especially the joy he found in his eight grandchildren.  He retired from the Portsmouth Police Department in 1994 after 24 years of service.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Ellen Greco Tapman; their children: Laura Fleenor and her husband Joseph, Brian Tapman and his wife Cecile, Karen Modesitt and her husband Michael; and eight grandchildren: Nathan Fleenor, Matthew Fleenor, Aiden Fleenor, Jack Tapman, Katherine Tapman, Kassidy Modesitt, Karissa Modesitt and Garrett Modesitt.

The Burial of the Dead Rite II will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court St., Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society . Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
