Obituary

Portsmouth, VA - Brian Arthur Lytton-White, 88, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025.  Brian was born in Bangor, Northern Ireland, November 30, 1936, and moved with his family to Plymouth, England, at the age of 7.

He joined family members in immigrating to the United States at the age of 17.  He married his wife Priscilla in 1963 and began their life together in Portsmouth, Virginia.  He began his career as a Professional Architect with an education at William and Mary College.  He worked for several organizations including the U.S. Coast Guard before serving most of his career with Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Atlantic Division, from which he retired in 1993.  He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard. After retirement, he worked as an architecture and roofing consultant.  During his long career, he made countless lifelong friends whom he cherished.

Brian and Priscilla spent a great deal of time at their second home in Duck, North Carolina.  Many memories were made on the Outer Banks over the years with family and great friends.  Brian loved the ocean, beach, fishing, playing golf, traveling, listening to Irish and bluegrass music, and especially spending time with his family and friends.  He and his wife were active members of New Creation United Methodist Church in Chesapeake, Va.

Brian is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Priscilla Darlene Lytton-White, and their two daughters Darlene Kwiatkowski (Mike) and Shelly Fiden (Greg).  He is also survived by his grandchildren Emily and Brian Kwiatkowski and Seth and Alaina Fiden.  Brian was predeceased by his parents Benoni Richard Cleland Lytton-White (grandson of Richard Rose-Cleland of Rathgael House in Bangor, N. Ireland), and Georgina Hay Johnston (niece of Lord and Lady Hay, great niece of William Johnston of Ballykilbeg, N. Ireland, member of British Parliament), and his sisters Barbara Taylor and Angela Fowler.  Other cherished family members include nieces Sharron Rose, Angela Bolton, Ann Sparkman, Rosemary Gray, nephew John McKone, great-nieces and nephews Valerie and Thomas Chipps, Christine Terrell, Michael Martin, Natalie and Nicholas Sparkman, Katy Gibson, Kyle Hossli, and sister-in-law Rosalie Olsen.

He had a full life and will be missed and remembered by everyone who ever met him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
