NEW KENT—Beverly Slade Anderson, 91, passed away May 11, 2025. She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late Fred and Julia Walsh Slade.
She was dedicated to her work at the telephone company, working up from an operator to management. Over her 34-year career, she built friendships that lasted a lifetime. In her retirement, she was a dedicated member of her church and was the Assistant to the Treasurer for years; a member of the Episcopal Church Women group, where she was the Treasurer; traveled the United States; and was a frequent QVC shopper.
Beverly was able to see her grandchildren grow into adulthood as one of their biggest supporters. Being "Meemaw" and "Grandma" brought her daily joy. She was one of the "Pearl Girls", a group of lifelong friends who helped each other live life to the fullest. She was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 60 years.
In addition to her parents, Beverly was predeceased by her loving husband of 34 years, Robert L. "Tink" Anderson, and her brother, Fred Slade. She is survived by her children, Robert Anderson & Jennifer Hall (Chris); her grandchildren, Justin & Caitlyn Anderson and Gavin & Chloe Hall; her brother, Leo Slade; family friend, Scott Dubois; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3300 Cedar Ln., Portsmouth, immediately followed by inurnment at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Rd., Suffolk, with a reception to follow at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics of Virginia , Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind , Saving Chance Rescue , Community First Project , St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3300 Cedar Ln., Portsmouth, VA 23703, or a charity of your choice.
