Obituary

Betty St. George, born on February 17, 1940, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2025 surrounded by her husband of 64 years, John R. St. George, Jr. and their four children, John R. St. George, III, (Deborah Johnson), Mary St. George Lauer, (Robert), Jeff W. St. George (Linda Shaia) and Anne St. George Resolute, (Albert "Trey", III).  She is also survived by their 9 grandchildren: Matthew, Julia, Katie, William, Marissa, Peyton, Cullen, Avery and Tucker; her sisters, Linda Mitchell (NJ) and Cathy Bryant (MA); and brothers Jimmy and David Bryant.

Betty took pride in any work she undertook, including 15 years as the Office Manager of the St. Christopher School (now Christopher Academy), and as many in real estate with William E Wood in Portsmouth.   She was full of creative energy and a natural-born entrepreneur, over the years creating businesses ranging from skirts to peanuts.

She was also a devoted volunteer for many local organizations: docent for the Chrysler Museum, which fostered her love of fine art; Portsmouth Service League, former President; Meals on Wheels. She proudly played a prominent role in the creation of the Portsmouth Children's Museum.  She served on the Boards of Christopher Academy and the Portsmouth Museums Foundation, where she was Co-Chair of the Heart of the Harbor cookbook fundraiser.

Betty was the true heart of her family. She loved to travel, cook and especially entertain her family and friends.
