Betty Jane Parker, 85, passed away in her home on February 24, 2014.

Mrs. Parker was born in Phenix City, Alabama and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. She was a graduate of University of Michigan and had taught in the public school systems in Detroit, Michigan and Portsmouth, Virginia. She was a longtime member of Monumental United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Robert M. Parker; three sons, Stephen T. Parker (Gloria), Christopher G. Parker (Sandra), and Daniel H. Parker; five grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1st at Monumental United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Endowment Fund, Monumental United Methodist Church, 450 Dinwiddie St., Portsmouth, Va. 23704.
