Betty C. Douglass 96, died peacefully at the Bon Secours Nursing Care Center, Suffolk, Virginia on April 27. Born in Bedford, Ohio November 15, 1919, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.T. Douglass in 1983.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Linda Brown and Elizabeth Hunting (Walt); grandchildren, Winston Brown (Beth), Patricia and Lynn Hunting, Sarah Stehlin (James), and John Hunting; great grandchildren, Brandon Dunson, Peter and Alex Lomong, Jonah Brown, Kayleigh Hunting and Jacob Pettry.
Betty, a 1941 graduate of Ohio State University, also did graduate work at Mills College and Columbia University.
She worked for The Giant Open Air Market, Southside Electric Cooperative, and in retirement wrote for the Flavor Section of the Virginian Pilot, created recipes for Bennett's Creek Farm Market, took on cooking lessons and special assignments.
Betty loved preparing family dinners, brunch at the Stove, reading recipes and cookbooks and watching tennis and golf on television.
Deep appreciation is expressed to Tracy Taylor, whose care and kindness, made it possible for Betty to remain in her home, as she wished, during the past two years.
A graveside service will be held Friday April 29 at 2:00 P.M. at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Green Acres Presbyterian Church, 3135 Hanley Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23703. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
