NORFOLK—Barbara Janet Gibson, 78, passed away February 21, 2022. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Justiniano and Rita Whalen Salanga.

Barbara grew up in Portsmouth "Newtown," VA, and graduated from St. Paul's High School. Through the years, she worked at Hoffheimers, Canine Corner, St. Joe Paper, and Chesapeake Homes, the last of which she retired from after 30 years. She was an avid professional tennis fan.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her former husband, David Gibson, and her brother, Gene Salanga. She is survived by her children, Michael "Barry" Gibson, Teri Gibson, and Deana Gibson; her sister, Patricia Murphy; her grandchildren, Meghan Holloman Updegrove and Justin Kyle Holloman; and her great-granddaughter, Cadence Denise Ware.
