Obituary

Ann Marie (Clark) Loew

1932 – 2022

Ann Marie (Clark) Loew passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Beth Sholom Village in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was 89 years old.

Born May 17,1932 in Washington DC, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Catherine (Foley) Clark of Fairfax, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Clark, her brother Dennis Clark, and her former husband Dr. Albert G. Loew, Jr.

Family was everything to Ann. She was the proud mother of seven children: Thomas Loew (Carolyn) of Overland Park, Kansas; Cathy McDonough (Patrick) of Suffolk, Virginia; Mary Patricia Lane (Jerome) of Staunton, Virginia; Carl Loew (Teresa) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; Nancy Crockett (Stan) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Margaret Cooney (Daniel) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; and Dwight Loew of Richmond, Virginia.

Ann loved visiting and being with her 16 grandchildren Stephen Loew (Holly), Jessica Scanlan (Anthony), Megan Moeller (Derek), Jason Lockwood (Audrey), Kristin Lockwood (Trevor), Sean McDonough (Katrina), Sabrina Werner (Douglas), Bridget Lane (Blair McDonough), Hersey Lane, Stacey Antes, Tessy Loew, Caitlin Tapp (Kaleb), Shelby Crockett, Joshua Cooney (Wanda), Jacob Cooney, and Joel Cooney.

Ann also had 20 lucky great-grandchildren: Kaila, Aisen and Bexton Loew; Iben and Iverson Coohey; Elora and Avia Scanlan; Timothy and Scarlett Moeller; Ezekiel and Arthur Lockwood; Ayden, Mikayla and Lukas Curtis; Easton McDonough; Dante Antes; Adalee and Collins Tapp; Reave and Kreaston Cooney.

Prior to getting married and starting a family, Ann pursued a nursing career. However, Ann left school and became a dedicated wife and mother. When she wasn't raising her seven children or driving back and forth across the country, as she did in the early years of her marriage and Bud's Naval career, she loved to sing in the church choir and participate with the Portsmouth Naval Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She supported Military wives in the area and was instrumental in securing military benefits for all Military wives.

When most of the children had gone off to college, she became the Portsmouth Catholic High School secretary during the late 70's and early 80's.  She loved to be connected to all the PCHS families. Ann was proud that all seven of her children graduated from Portsmouth Catholic High School and went on to graduate from college as well.

Ann was a great cook and was always creative when it came to feeding a large family. She attended as many soccer matches, baseball / softball games or school events she could, even if it meant flying to the mid-west for a ballet recital. She loved to travel and fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams of touring Ireland and other areas of Europe.

Ann was a founding member of Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Virginia and made many lifelong friends from those she met in the parish family. She enjoyed attending church and receiving the sacraments. During times when she was unable to attend church, she liked to watch Mass every morning on EWTN.

Ann's family and friends will deeply miss her sassy smile, her strong faith, her generosity, and her sense of humor.  She left a strong impression on everyone she met throughout her entire life and right up until her death.
