PORTSMOUTH - Andy Racz, 91, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021.

He was born in Warren, OH, the son of the late Michael Racz and Mary H. Racz, also stepmother Helen K. Racz.  He is a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Warren, OH.

Andy was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Jean Holloman Racz.  He had lived here since 1950 and retired from the Supply Department and the "Tiger Team" of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 38 years of service.

He was a retired U.S. Marine Corps First Sergeant and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War; a member of the Catholic Church of the Resurrection; Portsmouth Moose Lodge 898; and a team member of the Senior Friendship Bowling League.

Andy is survived by his devoted daughter, Brenda R. Brett and husband Robert of Portsmouth, VA; two brothers, Steve Racz of Niles, OH and Paul Racz (Karen) of Warren, OH; two sisters, Margaret McClure of Colorado Springs, CO and Patricia Bozichovich of Campbell, OH; and special friend Mary Tye of Portsmouth, VA.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to: Dr. Thomas Harrington of Churchland Internal Medicine for the excellent care and kindness shown to Andy over the years; Heartland Hospice of Suffolk and the many nurses and caseworkers who took care of him with such compassion and concern during the last few months; and the staff of Province Place of Maryview, who welcomed and were very attentive to him during his final days.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family for a visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High St., Portsmouth. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
