PORTSMOUTH—Alvin Timothy Manning, "Timmy," 57, passed away July 10, 2022. He was born in Portsmouth to the late Arthur and Annette Edwards Manning.

A graduate of Alliance Christian School, Class of 1983, Timmy was a star athlete, playing soccer, baseball, and basketball. He broke a school record, scoring fifty goals in his senior soccer season. After high school, Timmy attended Virginia Wesleyan University.

Timmy loved golfing, crabbing, and watching his children's sporting events. He was the North Carolina Tar Heels' biggest fan. For sixteen years, he was an equipment operator at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course. He lit up any room he was in and could make anyone smile; he loved his family unconditionally and will be dearly missed.

Timmy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sherry; his children, Brittany Winslow (Zach), Tiffany Manning, and Andrew Manning; his brother, David Manning; his sister, Wanda Lilley (Joseph); his grandson, Chandler; and his nephews, Jake, Brandon, and Cameron Lilley.

A Celebration of Timmy's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the Bide-A-Wee Pavilion, 1 Bide-A-Wee Ln., Portsmouth. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
