In Loving Memory of
Dr. Christian E. Creteur
Dr. Christian E. Creteur, 87, passed away August 5, 2012 at Maryview Medical Center.
Dr. Creteur was born in Namur, Belgium. During World War II he was a farm worker, but secretly aided the French Underground during the Nazi occupation of Belgium. After escaping to England, he returned to Belgium following the war and completed his education. He immigrated to Hartford, Connecticut and re-certified as an anesthesiologist. In 1960 he came to Portsmouth, Virginia and, with Dr. Lois Fryer, established one of the city’s first anesthesiology practices.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Yvonne L. Dexters-Creteur; a daughter, Dr. Chantel Creteur of Sprimont, Belgium; a son, Yves Creteur of Lesve, Belgium; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives may make contributions to a charity of choice. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is assisting the family. Condolences may be registered at www.bwfosterfuneralhome.com.
